Where to Donate Books

Over a period of time it’s almost too easy to amass a collection of books.

You’ll have books that you have read, maybe more than once, books that you’ve never even read, books that you’ve been given as presents and maybe even books you’ve inherited (cookery books anyone?).

If you want to donate books, it’s good to know that they are going to a ‘good’ home. Below you’ll find some places in the US where you can donate your books.

Where to donate books:

  • Operation Paperback
Operation Paperback provides books to wounded warrior programs and veterans hospitals located within and outside the United States. Visit www.operationpaperback.org
  • The Salvation Army
You can donate your hardback and paperback books to The Salvation Army. Your donated books will stock the Salvation Army store, or to provide reading materials for Salvation Army’s homeless shelters. They offer free pickups. Visit www.salvationarmyusa.org
  • Better World Books
Better World Books collect and sell books online to donate books and fund literacy initiatives worldwide. Visit www.betterworldbooks.com
  • Goodwill
You can donate your books to Goodwill who will resell them in their stores. Proceeds will fund job training and placement programs for those who face unemployment challenges, such as the disabled. Visit www.goodwill.org
  • Your local library
Your local library is an ideal place to donate your books. They will be more than happy to take them off you. Find your nearest library via www.lib-web.org

Tip: before you donate your books, make sure you’ve removed any notes or pieces of paper that may have found their way in-between pages.
